Rantings of a Server

I feel like I should kick this one off by saying that I hope this doesn’t offend anyone too much but I don’t think I should have to do so. Sometimes I feel we should be able to vent about our day without worrying about backlash from others. Right? Good. I’m glad you agree.

I know what you’re thinking, “If you hate your job why don’t you find another one?” or, “That’s part of being in the customer service industry!”. While those are valid points they aren’t helpful to anyone who is currently working in this industry. We know that we signed up for this willingly and that it’s part of the job. I’m not denying that. It’s just upsetting that it HAS to be part of the job. You know what I mean? I get that you want your water “Stacy” with no ice and 13 lemons on the side but did you really have to interrupt me from saying hello and introducing myself to your ungrateful family? No. You didn’t. You could have waited the 8 seconds for me to greet you and tell you my name before you threw your chin in the air and ordered your drink. And yes, the water will always be free. Yes, the lemons are free. And YES, we do have free sugar on the table but for the love of all you don’t have to make handmade lemonade at the table. We’ve got some in the back, premixed, at the soda fountain. Yes, you’re right, it does cost 2$ buuuut aren’t you eating out because you want to treat yourself? That’s why I would go out to eat. To treat myself. Obviously if you wanted cheap you would be at home slurping down some Ramen Noodles. But of course there is nothing I can say about it so I just smile and graciously bring you the ingredients you require to make your free lemonade.

Okay so that was a quick rant and it escalated quickly but it’s just something that needed to be said. There are many things that need to be said. Not because I expect anything to change but because I just really needed to say it. That’s all. All the Stacy’s out there should not be worried, I won’t shun you when I see you. You’ll still get to be the novice drink mixer at one of my tables and I will be kind to you every time you come in because yes, I did choose this profession. For a reason. I’m good at waiting until I get home to blog (vent) about you.

Thanks for reading!
